Learan Kahanov, Director of Photography

Born in the United States to Israeli parents, Learan discovered his passion for the visual arts early in life. At the age of 13 he followed his mother into the darkroom and realized the power and beauty of the captured image. Majoring in photojournalism at Indiana University, he created a solid portfolio, which brought him to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts two years later. Learan worked as a gaffer on many music videos, commercials, television shows, and feature films. He has worked for clients such as MTV, Showtime, Radical Media, FM Rocks and Comedy Central as well as lending his skills to productions by View Askew’s Chasing Amy, Hart/Sharp & Killer Films’ Dark Harbor and Greenestreet Films’ Just a Kiss. With over ten years experience in the industry Learan was the director of photographer on feature films such as, Indian Cowboy, The Forgotten, Fossil Fight, as well as many short narratives, music videos and commercial projects. Striving to be a true collaborator, he has been able to team with the likes of Kevin Smith, HBO, TCM, MTV, Nickelodeon, Oxygen Media, The Department of Film, WorldSport HD network, Starbucks, Avon and AMEX.
